Lessons Learned from Another Trip Around the Sun
Aug 01, 2024As women, we are constantly evolving. We become adults and experience the tension of growing our careers, starting families and grieving the loss of girlhood. And each new season of womanhood, we have to get to know ourselves and our bodies again. I've learned to take inventory each loop around the sun, remind myself of how far I've come, what I've learned and set intentions for the coming year.
Here are the top ten things I've learned on this latest journey around the sun:
1. Order the Fries
If you're opting for a burger without the bun, don't deny yourself the joy of fries. Life is about balance and enjoyment, and sometimes that means indulging in the things that make you happy. It's a small reminder to treat yourself and find joy in the little things.
2. The Power of Presentation
There is undeniable power in putting yourself together. Fixing your hair, applying a bit of mascara, and wearing at least one article of clothing or an accessory that makes you feel good can transform your day. When you feel good about how you look, it boosts your confidence and sets a positive tone for the day.
3. Stretch to Reconnect with Your Youth
Stretching isn’t just a physical activity; it’s a way to reconnect with your youthful vitality. Regular stretching keeps your body flexible, reduces stress, and helps you feel more energetic and capable.

4. Ask for Help
Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. More importantly, allow yourself to receive that help. It's essential to recognize that we don't have to do everything alone and that accepting support from others can lead to growth and deeper connections.
5. Embrace Fear
If something scares you, it's likely something worth pursuing. Fear often indicates growth and stepping out of your comfort zone. Embrace the challenges that come your way, as they often lead to the most significant personal development.
6. The Joy of Physical Books
In our digital age, it's easy to forget the simple pleasure of reading a physical book. There's something incredibly satisfying about turning pages, the smell of paper, and the tactile experience of holding a book. It’s a reminder to slow down and enjoy the tangible moments in life.
7. Swap Coffee for Matcha
Swapping out your afternoon coffee for matcha can be a beneficial change. Matcha provides a gentler energy boost without the jitters and crashes associated with coffee. Plus, it's packed with antioxidants and can be a delightful ritual in itself.
8. Iron Supplements Work

10. Embrace Change in Your Body
Your body will continue to change, and your wrinkles will continue to grow. It’s essential to learn to love and appreciate these changes as marks of the life you’ve lived. Embrace your body, be proud of the years you’ve earned, and treat yourself with kindness and respect.
