Rest Is Queen
Aug 01, 2024Let's talk about the unsung hero of fitness - REST.
Yep, you read that right.
Your REST deserves way more attention/credit/brownie points than it gets!
I know you’re thinking that can’t be right…
“I thought I needed to focus on burning MAX calories every day” and “how else am I going to get washboard abs if I don't do abs every single day???”
I know it's all so confusing. And what I’m saying feels contrary to what we hear a lot of from the fitness industry. But let me tell you how allowing your body to REST can do wonders for your body and mind.
Rest Creates The Opportunity For Your Muscles to Repair & Get Stronger
When you exercise, you are literally tearing your muscle fibers. Rest and recovery allows your body to repair these tears and build stronger muscles. Simply put, rest Prevents Injury. Rest days give your muscles, joints, and connective tissues time to repair and recover from the stress of exercise. Rest also boosts your immune system. Overtraining can weaken your immune system and make you more susceptible to illness and infection. Rest and recovery help your body fight off infections and stay healthy.
If your current workout plan doesn’t incorporate rest days, you might want to reconsider your current workout plan. Grab my free Busy Girl Workout Plan to experience realistic workouts, created by me…a real woman navigating the business of life, motherhood, and business all while trying to stay consistent in my health.
Rest helps prevent BURNOUT
Going too hard too frequently can easily create burnout and a discouraging relationship with exercise. Taking a break gives you that mental break you need to come back even more motivated and ready to crush your next workout. It also creates space for other activities, rest doesn't always call for staying sedentary all day. You can do yoga, basic stretching, get your steps in for a Cool Girl Walk, or spend some time in the kitchen trying out a new recipe.
Listen to Your Body
A simple way to know if you're not getting enough rest in, is if you're soreness lasts longer than 2-3 days, you're swearing off exercise after the 3rd day in a row, or you've been working so hard and seeing no change whatsoever. Nutrition also plays a huge role in your body's recovery. So be sure to consume enough protein, enough sustainable nutrients and recovery supplements to help your body rest efficiently!
Consider this your permission to take your rest days, guilt-free and allow your body the time and space it needs to recover well.
