So you want to Cycle Sync?

Aug 01, 2024

By now you’ve probably heard the term CYCLE SYNCING, but what is it really and is it for you?

If you bleed ...yes, this is for you.

If you want to embark on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment...this is for you.

And if you want to start seeing your body as an ally and a friend...cycle syncing is definitely for you.

So, what is cycle syncing?

Cycle syncing is a method that aligns your exercise, nutrition and lifestyle to the natural rhythm of your menstrual cycle.

Why should you cycle sync?

When you work with your body’s natural hormonal changes, instead of against it, you reduce symptoms of PMS, balance your mood, maximize the effectiveness of your workouts, and improve your overall well-being.

It's all about understanding the incredible changes happening within you and using that knowledge to unleash your true potential. Let's dive into the magical world of cycle syncing….

The menstrual cycle consists of four main phases:

Menstrual, follicular, ovulation, and luteal. During each phase, different hormones such as estrogen and progesterone play crucial roles, influencing various aspects of a woman's physiology and psychology.

Phase 1: The Menstrual Phase

Aka the early follicular phase, lasts 3 to 7 days and involves the shedding of the uterine lining (hello Aunt Flo). With low estrogen and progesterone levels during this phase, it’s important to listen to your body, nourish it, and elect for more low impact movements to help alleviate discomfort, improve blood flow, and enhance well-being. *Insert your rest days, low-impact movement here*

Phase 2: The Follicular Phase

Aka the late follicular phase, begins around day 6 and lasts somewhere around day 14 of your cycle. As you bid farewell to Aunt Flo, your energy levels start skyrocketing because Estrogen takes the stage, boosting your mood and motivation. (Heck yeah)

This phase is the perfect time to conquer those strength-building, sweat-inducing, high-intensity workouts! (You know I’ve got you covered there). This phase also enhances creativity, productivity, openness to new experiences, and a desire for social connections.

Oh how I love this phase…

It’s a great place in your cycle to start something new, like my Busy Girl Workout Plan. A 14-day, 5 days/week at 30 minutes a workout…FREE, because life can be overwhelming and I want you to have something you can just hit play and move your body to without having to think too much about it. Phase 3: The Ovulation Phase

This phase lasts for a few days around day 15 to 17. During ovulation, your body is in full-on fertility mode. Your estrogen and progesterone levels are at their highest so you will feel a continued boost in mood, energy and libido. This is a great time to push yourself during a sweaty HIIT workout (with me), or reach for that extra mile on your run or in a cycle class. This phase will take you to your peak of confidence and creativity, so live it up woman!

Phase 4: The Luteal Phase

This final phase begins right after ovulation around day 18 and lasts until the first day of your next period. In the luteal phase, progesterone takes the spotlight bringing a sense of calm and reflection.

Your energy levels might dip a bit, but don't worry, it's just your body asking for some TLC. Continue to engage in self-care activities like pilates, low impact strength training and low-intensity cardio to maintain your muscle mass you built back in the follicular phase.

Nourish your body with wholesome foods and practice gratitude and grace. While your mood may shift, it’s time to sit back and recharge your mind & body in ways that bring you to a place of balance.

The benefits of Cycle Syncing are clear…

You can tap into your body’s natural energy sources allowing you to rock your workouts like never before, reduce uncomfortable PMS symptoms, balance your mood, learn your unique body’s cues, practice self-care and deepen your connection with your inner self.

It takes practice but it's a transformative journey that allows you to become your own best friend.
